What We Do

Established in 2004, United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador is a charity working to advance the common good and create opportunities for a better life for everyone in our province. Our vision for Newfoundland and Labrador is a province where all of our neighbourhoods are healthy, vibrant places to work, live, and raise a family; and where all of our young people get the best start in life with every opportunity for success.

We believe that it takes the whole community working together to change social conditions. We strive to bring people and financial resources together by engaging residents, local business and community leaders, social service providers and funders. Our goal is to identify key challenges and mobilize the community to improve the quality of life for everyone. We work to address the root causes of our province’s shared challenges, to fulfill long-term needs, and to lift not only individuals but whole communities from despair to hope.

Utilizing a large network of volunteers, our objective is to efficiently raise a significant amount of money and to direct it to charitable agencies that provide services to strengthen individuals, families and communities. We raise most of our funds through workplace campaigns and corporate donations.

A volunteer board of directors of leading community members governs all United Way decision-making. The Board oversees how donor money is used, shapes our strategic vision and plan, and monitors organizational performance.
