Investing in Our Community
When you donate to United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador, your money is invested in the Community Fund, a network of care that draws on the combined strength of many donors like you to support services that improve peoples’ lives.
The Community Fund enables United Way to provide funding grants that support entire programs or services offered by community-based health and social service agencies across Newfoundland and Labrador. United Way uses research and knowledge of social issues to allocate donor dollars where they will have the greatest benefit to our community. United Way has a rigorous review process to ensure that supported agencies demonstrate strong fiscal management and deliver effective programs.
When you give to United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador, you help United Way funded agencies to ensure the well-being of children and young people, offer shelter to abused women and children, allow seniors and people with disabilities to live independently, and help the homeless find the support they need to make a better life. Your gift also enables United Way to set priorities, address root causes and make positive and lasting change.
Donors who prefer to direct their gift to one or more specific agencies also have that option.

Fund Distribution
All applications for the 2009 Campaign Community Fund proceeds have been received and reviewed (Deadline was April 30, 2010). Since 2006, United Way has been distributing funds to local community organizations as a result of our successful workplace campaigns.
The level of need in the community will always surpass the availability of resources. United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to funding services that address community needs, within the funding available.
United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador will fund a broad range of programs and services, that will strike a balance between supporting services that address immediate needs (crisis) and future needs (prevention).
United Way of Newfoundland and Labrador will fund existing community needs and new community needs with the emphasis on existing needs, and we will attempt to identify gaps in services through a variety of methods, primarily through our funded agencies and other community organizations.
For further information or questions on the latest round of funding, please do not hesitate to contact Tammy Davis, Executive Director, at 709-753-8288.
